The great obelisks that once warped reality have been shattered, Vecna’s final gambit has been foiled, and ancient gods who sought dominion over the Realms have been cast down. The great adventures of the past have become legend, from the shores of Saltmarsh to the heart of Icewind Dale, from the Nine Hells to the Feywild’s twisting paths.

But peace in the Forgotten Realms is fleeting.

The world, though mended, is fragile. New powers rise from the shadows left by the old. The weave of magic, once stretched to its limits, trembles under the weight of forgotten spells and broken promises. From the hidden depths of Undermountain to the lofty spires of Waterdeep, whispers of unrest and dark designs echo through the taverns and alleyways.

Timeline of Toril

Ancient History (Pre-DR)
-35000 DR: Days of Thunder
The empires of the creator races—sarrukh, batrachi, aearee, humans, and dragons—dominate the world.

-30000 DR: Fall of the Aearee Empires
The creator race of avian beings falls, giving rise to the dragons and giant wars.

-24000 DR: Founding of the Elven Kingdoms
The first elven kingdoms, like Aryvandaar and Illefarn, are established on the mainland.

-12000 DR: The Crown Wars Begin
A series of devastating wars among the elven kingdoms, leading to the fall of several great realms.

-9000 DR: Fall of Netheril (Karsus' Folly)
The Netherese Empire, an ancient civilization of wizards, collapses after Archwizard Karsus attempts to seize the power of the goddess of magic, Mystryl.

-339 DR: The Fall of Netheril

The once-great empire of Netheril falls due to Karsus' failed attempt to become a god, disrupting the Weave of magic. This event is known as Karsus' Folly.

The Common Era, Dalereckoning Timeline (DR)

1 DR: Dalereckoning Begins
The signing of the Dale Compact between the humans of the Dales and the elves of Cormanthor marks the start of the Dalereckoning calendar.

712 DR: Rising of Myth Drannor
The city of Myth Drannor is founded as an inclusive center for magic and knowledge. Elves, dwarves, and humans coexist here for a time.

882 DR: The Time of Shadows
The shadow dragon Aurgloroasa takes over the region of the High Moor, becoming a terror for all nearby settlements.

1030 DR: Tethyr's Chaos
After a century of civil unrest and anarchy, the kingdom of Tethyr collapses. Bandit lords and independent city-states arise in the region.

1235 DR: The Year of the Black Horde
The Horde of the Wastes, led by orc chieftain Obould Many-Arrows, lays siege to the North, especially Waterdeep, Mirabar, and Silverymoon.

1358 DR: Time of Troubles
One of the most significant events in Forgotten Realms history. The gods are forced into mortal form after Lord Ao casts them down for their irresponsibility. Major deities like Bane, Myrkul, and Mystra die, while new gods such as Cyric and Midnight (new Mystra) ascend.

1368 DR: The Zhentarim Rebellion
The shadowy organization known as the Zhentarim initiates uprisings and covert operations in the Moonsea and the Sword Coast, leading to significant political instability.

1371 DR: Reclamation of Myth Drannor
A coalition of elves returns to Myth Drannor and successfully retakes the city, though the task of cleansing it is far from complete.

1374 DR: Return of the Archwizards
The surviving Netherese enclaves, including Shade Enclave, return from the Shadow Plane, setting the stage for future conflicts in Faerûn.

1385 DR: The Spellplague
This catastrophic event is triggered by the death of Mystra, the goddess of magic, at the hands of Cyric. Magic goes wild across Faerûn, drastically altering the world and the Weave. The Spellplague leaves scars on both the physical world and magical users.

1479 DR: Post-Spellplague Era
Known as the Era of Upheaval, Faerûn struggles to recover from the Spellplague's effects. Many nations rise and fall, and magic remains unstable for many.

1482-1489 DR: The Sundering
A major event that reshapes the world, The Sundering splits the Abeir-Toril world back into separate worlds: Abeir and Toril. The gods return to prominence, and the Weave of magic is restored by a resurrected Mystra. This event also marks the start of the official 5th Edition timeline, where many of the modern campaigns occur.

1491 DR: Tiamat's Rise (Events of Tyranny of Dragons)
The dragon queen Tiamat threatens to escape from the Nine Hells and conquer the world. Her cult, the Cult of the Dragon, is opposed by various factions, including adventurers.

1492 DR: Waterdeep Dragon Heist
Power struggles between various factions, including Xanathar, Jarlaxle, and the Zhentarim, erupt in Waterdeep, with adventurers hunting for a massive hidden treasure.

1492 DR: Out of the Abyss
Demonic princes like Demogorgon and Orcus rise from the Underdark to threaten the surface world. Adventurers battle to drive them back into their abyssal realms.

1493 DR: Princes of the Apocalypse
The Elemental Cults of Evil threaten the Sword Coast, and adventurers must stop the apocalypse they seek to bring about.

1496 DR: Storm King's Thunder
Giant factions begin a war to restore their ancient dominance. Adventurers intervene to stop the giant attacks and restore peace to the North.

1497 DR: Tomb of Annihilation
The Death Curse, a mysterious plague that prevents resurrection, originates from the Soulmonger in the jungles of Chult. Adventurers must stop it before it spreads further.

1498 DR: Curse of Strahd
Adventurers find themselves in Barovia, trapped under the rule of the vampire lord Strahd von Zarovich, and must defeat him to escape.

1500-1504 DR: All other 5th Edition Modules
Various other adventures where infamous figures rise and fall, usually in an attempt to rule or destroy the world.

1505 DR: Vecna’s Return and the Eve of Ruin
The lich god Vecna returns with a vengeance, seeking dominion over life and death itself. The Eve of Ruin represents a final clash between the forces of life and undeath, with Vecna as the ultimate threat. Adventurers from across Faerûn unite to put an end to Vecna's apocalyptic plans.

1505-1509 DR: The Time of Peace
With many powerful foes vanquished, the number of dangerous threats subsided for a short time. The people of Toril have been able to rest easy over the last several years.

1510 DR (F&D) DR: The Rise of Adventure
In previous years, adventurers were a necessity in the world. As of late however; it is a profession many take up to purely seek fame and fortune. Some say it may be an oversaturated field, others are just happy to be around. Choose your destiny, what role will you play?
