Levels and Experience
In Forums and Dragons, a character's level represents the culmination of their skills, abilities, proficiencies. A high level character is usually seen as a very experienced and famous individual. While low-level characters are usually up-and-coming adventurers.
character levels start at 1, but can be increased all the way to level 20 with proper experience. Below is a table with the experience requirements to increase your level. Experience cannot be lost, and will only increase over time.
Level 1 (N/A) | Level 11 (27,500 XP) |
Level 2 (500 XP) | Level 12 (33,000 XP) |
Level 3 (1500 XP) | Level 13 (39,000 XP) |
Level 4 (3000 XP) | Level 14 (45,500 XP) |
Level 5 (5000 XP) | Level 15 (52,500 XP) |
Level 6 (7500 XP) | Level 16 (60,000 XP) |
Level 7 (10,500 XP) | Level 17 (68,000 XP) |
Level 8 (14,000 XP) | Level 18 (76,500 XP) |
Level 9 (18,000 XP) | Level 19 (85,500 XP) |
Level 10 (22,500 XP) | Level 20 (95,000 XP) |
Characters gain experience at the rate of 1 experience for each word written in RP. These experience points are awarded at the conclusion of a thread. When a character's level increases, they are rewarded in the form of Character Points (CP), these points can be spent to increase a character's Ability Scores, Proficiencies, and Skills. The number of Character Points gained is equal to the level being advanced to. For example, if a character is advancing from level 4 to level 5, they would receive 5 Character Points they could spend or save.
Character Points can be spent to increase the ranks of their Ability Scores, Skills, and Proficiencies. Increasing any one of these costs a number of Character points equal to the rank of the upgrade.
A character who wants to increase their Strength from 4 to 5 for example, would need to spend 5 Character Points. Someone wanting to increase their Strength all the way from 4 to 6 would need to spend 11 Character Points. Skills and Proficiencies are increased in the same way.
Gold Pieces (GP)
The primary form of currency in Faerun is the Gold Piece (GP). It is a small gold coin with various images embedded on the front of it. There are also Copper Pieces (Worth 1/100 of a GP), Silver Pieces (Worth 1/10 of a GP), and Platinum Pieces (Worth 10 Gold). Gold Pieces can be spent to purchase equipment, armor, weapons, magical items, vehicles, and even property.
Characters gain GP at a rate of +10 GP per post made in-character. They are awarded at the end of each thread, in a similar fashion to Experience Points. Some threads will award additional GP, such as completing quests, adventures, or campaigns.
